Artist Statement (www.bobbiegoodrich.com)
As a young adult, I studied classical ballet and later my interest shifted to visual arts. I married, had a son and during those years studied drawing and painting. Later, as I became more serious about a career in the arts, I enrolled in various workshops: Carolyn Anderson, Ramon Kelly, Ned Jacob and others, whose works I admire. In 1990, after divorcing and moving to Colorado, I began to exhibit my paintings. My subject matter of choice was the American West. Needing photographic reference material for inspiration, I began photographing. At my first show, I exhibited my paintings accompanied with the photographic references. I quickly discovered that photography was my focus.
Satisfying my love of travel I set out on a worldwide journey of exploration, documenting my experiences in third world countries. I was amazed at the results of my efforts. My images were more than pictures, they intimately captured the personality of the subject. One comment I frequently heard was: " You've captured the soul ". The images also appeared painterly, which encouraged me to delve deeper into fine art photography.
I use 35 mm digital cameras. Taking my images into the digital darkroom, I impose creative techniques I have developed using Adobe Photoshop software, thus fusing technology and photography to create my ultimate fine art print.
My art has added a dimension to my life which I hope to share with the world. The art that demands an emotional response from the viewer, is the art that is the most meaningful.
These days, I reside in Scotsdale, AZ part of the year and the rest in Basalt, CO.
