Originally from Colorado, Ben comes to The Hideout after spending much of the last four years in the colt starting business.
Ben adds a lifetime of practical equine experience to a strong influence from the methods of such horseman as the Dorrance Brothers, Ray Hunt, Pat Parelli and others. Ben has long wanted to follow in those footsteps and become a clinician himself. And to that end, he's already conducted many informal teaching sessions.
Amongst others he helped starting up colts at Rocky Mountain Expo in Colorado and learned reining basics from Chris Carlson.
Ben's added to his education by attending clinics led by Mario Johnson, a natural horsemanship trainer known for his Mustang starting clinics and who, in turn, has studied with Brian Neubert, Buck Branemen, Curt Pate and others. Ben has also worked intensively with Ramon Castro, one of the up-and-coming quality trainers in the West. His experience even includes a stint colt starting in New Zealand.
Previously Ben worked as assistant trainer at Eagle View Quarter Horses in Colorado.
Here at The Hideout, Ben spends the summer season working as a wrangler, leading guests on trail rides, teaching riding skills, and introducing guests to the basics of working with cattle.
Horsemanship & Leadership
Here at The Hideout, we believe the communication skills and techniques that make up effective horsemanship can be applied to everyday life in a way that enriches human relationships. Part of our vision is to train both horsemen and leaders from all walks of life in these principles, to improve both their communication and leadership skills.
Ben has trained in these techniques by attending Frank Bennett’s Western Challenge Clinic here at The Ranch. The Clinic uses horsemanship to teach non-verbal communication and low-stress leadership techniques to executives and teams.
Ben will put that training to work leading our new Ranch clinic – Leadership and Horsemanship in Motion – a fun and unique multi-day clinic here at The Hideout.
