The Main Lodge is a large, Western-style log structure built in 1992. This building contains the Gift Shop, the office, a spacious dining room with nearby pantry and kitchen, and loft bar. The Main Lodge has large windows and porches overlooking lush green lawns and ponds and offer ever-changing vistas. The view from the dining room of Shell Canyon and the Big Horn Mountains is simply spectacular, sure to enhance your dining experience.
Guests typically gather every evening for cocktail hour in the loft bar. Complimentary appetizers are served while enjoying your beverage of choice and reviewing the photos of the day shown on a large screen. Guests are then served a gourmet dinner in the dining room, at large tables so you can mingle with fellow guests. One evening a week, there is after-dinner entertainment with cowboy singers.
On the lower level of the Main Lodge are additional guest facilities including comfy armchairs, books, tables for games, a rec room, and a pool table. There's an entertainment area with a big-screen TV accompanied by a selection of Western movies on DVD and a guest computer with high-speed internet access. There are also laundry facilities for the convenience of the guests.
The Main Lodge is surrounded by well-groomed lawns, shade trees, and refreshing ponds. Paved walkways that are lit after dark, lead you to the casitas, cabins and other amenities such as the outdoor hot tub and shower facilities. Shell Creek winds through the property, which along with the fishing ponds, provide catch-and-release fishing right on the grounds.
The Main Lodge is the heart of The Hideout operation. When you arrive you are welcomed by our staff where we cater to your every comfort. At The Hideout and our other lodges, you are treated like a guest of the family and dedicated staff and not just a client or a customer. Many of our repeat guests call it a Guest Ranch Boutique Experience on a real working cattle ranch. Each year, guests from around the world return to partake of our authentic Western experience and warm Wyoming hospitality, worthy of our century long heritage. They recreate, rejuvenate and renew friendships at their home away from home. You too can find yourself at The Hideout

Arena & Barn at The Hideout
Come partake in the fun with our professional cowboys and wranglers, and able ranch horses. Learn the fine points of cattle work, using low stress livestock handling according to the Bud Williams’s method of natural stockmanship. We have an outdoor arena large enough to accommodate horse activities including weekly riding orientation sessions for the guests, scheduled horsemanship seminars, team penning & sorting, and rodeo along with other competitive riding events.
Our tack room in the barn is stocked with well-maintained saddles, bridles, and other items. We are a Billy Cook distributor and have different styles of saddles that you can try out. Despite a never-ending war with the enemy - - "dust", we keep things shipshape. Every weekend the tack room, barn, vehicles and trailers are thoroughly cleaned.
In the morning, all horses that will be used that day are brought in and tacked up in the barn by the wranglers. For maintenance and cleanliness, the thick wooden floor is cleaned and oiled on a regular basis to keep good footing for the horses. We also employ a year-around schooled Ferrier who will hot shoe our horses for a perfect fit.
At the front end of the barn is an indoor round pen where our young horses are trained using Low Stress Training Methods. Guests are welcome to observe our capable horse trainers at work.
Upper Hideout
During the summer season and weather permitting, we offer the opportunity to ride up and stay overnight at the Upper Hideout mountain lodge. This is not included within the 6 night package, but is offered for an additional fee (see package pricing). This is part of separate arrangements, not included in the package. Please call us for details and reservations. The Upper Hideout is nestled amid a grove of tall pines up in the Big Horn Mountains located at approximately 8,400 ft elevation. It is a remote spot accessible by horseback or 4x4 vehicles after the snow pack has melted, usually in mid June. Visitors and supplies are packed in and out during the summer and fall until heavy snow accumulation.
On horseback, it’s about a 4 to 6 hour ride; by 4x4 vehicle, 2-1/2 hours; and by helicopter, only 10 minutes. For your safety and in case of emergency, there is a heated helipad nearby. Helipads are also located on other areas on the property too.
Should you opt for an overnight stay at the Upper Hideout high mountain lodges, you will be assigned sleeping quarters in comfortable guest cabins. At the Upper Hideout you will bed down in tidy sleeping bags complete with fresh sheet sacks and pillowcases. All cabins have porches offering breathtaking views. On clear days, you may see the Rocky Mountains, about 120 miles away.
There is a cozy central lodge called the Cook Shack where folks congregate and meals are served. It contains a wood stove, arm chairs, bathrooms, and two large dining tables for hearty meals or enthusiastic card games. This is our idea of roughing it. A roomy deck with a fine view overlooks the refreshing spring fed pond. In the evening we gather around the fire pit and campfire when there is no fire ban. We also keep a guitar and board games for anyone who'd care to play. For your consideration, we offer an elegant, three-story owner's lodge for an especially private retreat, family stay or hunting trip. Please call Peter De Cabooter at The Hideout for more information.
However you decide to get to the Upper Hideout, you will find the journey in and out as rewarding as the stay itself. Wildlife is abundant and streams in the nearby canyons offer good fishing. Deer graze around the compound and you can hear the coyotes howl during the night. We invite you to retreat to the secluded Upper Hideout for your next Wyoming vacation.
