Welcome to The Hideout

Dutch & Flemish

The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch is an all-inclusive upscale riding, horsemanship and working cattle guest ranch in Shell, WY (east of Cody and Yellowstone National Park). In addition to riding, working cattle and fly-fishing, we offer an array of non-riding activities and adventures such as trapshooting, archery, hiking, biking and scenic 4x4 vehicle tours.

The Hideout is limited to approximately 25 guests per week from all over the world and has access to over 120 horses for our guests. We offer a one to one staff to guest ratio and the owners and management are actively involved with the well-being of our guests. We are committed to the highest standards of culinary experience, lodging, inclusiveness (we speak 4 languages), staff, horses, and offer a personal, almost customized vacation. We are very multi-cultural and embrace diversity as an asset. We truly care about making your vacation the best ever!

Every year The Hideout books full well in advance of the season, mostly because of word of mouth and returning guests. As we do not plan to increase the number of guests that we host each week, please book your vacation well ahead of the season.

The Hideout: Adventures in and out of the Saddle!

The Hideout Blog

Let’s be honest – most folks come to The Hideout to ride all day, every day.

There are, however,  some supportive family members and friends who might tag along on one horse-lover’s vacation but have interests that lie in other places. Perhaps they want to spend a week reading and relaxing on the spacious front porch of their cabin. Maybe they prefer to do a half-day ride and then trap shoot or fly fish in the afternoon, or perhaps they are most interested in seeing Wyoming back country while being toured around the Big Horn Mountains in our famous “Red Dragon” SUV to an adventurous or romantic picnic lunch destination. Some folks might even want to spend an afternoon in downtown historic Cody before heading to the Cody Nite Rodeo! We also have mountain bikes available at the lodge as well as staff who are knowledgeable about local hiking trails if you prefer outdoor adventure on foot.

Fortunately, the possibilities at The Hideout are endless when it comes to activities  – what do you want to do during your time in or out of the saddle?

Fly fishing at The Hideout!

In addition to the beautiful Shell Falls, the Big Horn Mountains offer vast scenery and thousands of acres of untouched wilderness

Shell is a treasure chest of fossils – sometimes our lucky guests can visit an active dinosaur fossil dig site!
