- A riding vacation at The Hideout is not like a beach loping riding experience. Given the terrain we ride we never race our horse flat out.
- Our main gait to cover terrain is trotting like most of the cowboys and cowgirls on working ranches. We do lope where the terrain allows and if we see that riders are in control of their horse and balanced.

When thighs need a break, or if you want to try something new, guests can enjoy non-riding ranch activities like:

Do I need to be physically fit to enjoy a ranch vacation at The Hideout?
- Yes, you need to be fit to ride at The Hideout.
- The ranch adheres to a strict rider weight limit of 230lbs fully dressed, with weigh-ins upon arrival.
- You must be able to mount and dismount with assistance from one wrangler only. We are not staffed to provide a private wrangler for a single guest.
- While you do not need to be an athlete you need to be generally fit and be able to walk from your cabin to the barn and back after your rides.
- Plenty of rest and relaxation time is built into each day.
Can non-riders enjoy a stay at The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch?
- Yes, we welcome groups with non-riders, too – and the ranch is a great place to start learning new outdoor skills or riding if you want to try!
- While The Hideout is a horse-centric guest ranch, non-riders can enjoy the scenery, non-riding activities, social atmosphere and relaxing pace of ranch life.

Top tip: Many riding guests also take a break from riding and visit Cody, Greybull or Shell, or take a scenic drive into The Big Horn Mountains and Big Horn Basin.
